Southern Light
Southern Light is a collective housing building that starts from a simple principle: all architecture in the Algarve must be a dialogue with the sun. The complex of eight apartments is organised around a central courtyard covered in Mediterranean vegetation.
Passive shading systems, cross ventilation, and photovoltaic panels integrated into the facade reduced energy consumption by 65% compared to a conventional building. The material palette — pigmented stucco, patinated copper, and treated pine wood — reflects light differently throughout the day.
"Architecture is the learned game, correct and magnificent, of forms assembled in the light."
Le Corbusier
